DGF/Avago e-freight@Singapore Implementation

DHL Global Forwarding (DGF) and Avago Technologies are two of the initial consortium members that participated in the e-freight@Singapore Call for Collaboration (CFC) under the VCC Consortium.

A close tripartite alliance between the forwarder, shipper and ICT service provider allowed VCC to seamlessly establish the interface from DGF’s and Avago’s backend systems to our e-freight platform. VCC was able to incorporate these interfaces without major disruption to DGF’s and Avago’s existing systems using built-in technologies on the platform. At the same time, we successfully embedded the necessary complexity in the business logic and in the sources of data into the workflow.

The end result was representative of what e-freight can help forwarders and shippers achieve:

  • Increased efficiency. The declaration process used to take at least 1 hour to complete. Now it takes only a few minutes to do the same because as much as 95% of the data is already captured by the system.
  • Increased accuracy. Because the data is captured at source, the number of human errors is significantly reduced or totally eliminated.
  • Increased compliance. Improved efficiency, higher accuracy and tighter integration and codification of business rules ensure that compliance with regulatory requirements such as Advanced Export Declaration (AED) is achieved successfully.
  • Reduced complexity and resource requirement. Handling, consolidating and computing processes that previously required manual intervention are now automated and enforced by the system. Staff can now be redeployed to perform high value tasks instead of repetitive, tedious chores.
